Someone's dog has decided the sidewalk chalk is edible. And nobody is in a hurry, because the sun won't quit until after eight.
If you already live in Green Bay, you know this scene. What you might not know is how compressed it is. The Broadway District and the CityDeck act like one continuous outdoor room for roughly four weeks in August, and the calendar that supports it starts unraveling faster than most residents plan for. This is a guide to using those weeks well.
The Wednesday anchor is bigger than you remember
The Farmers' Market on Broadway is held weekly on Wednesday evenings and features fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, food trucks, arts and crafts, and opportunities to shop at Broadway District businesses. That's the polite description. The more useful one: it is the single largest recurring foot-traffic event downtown gets all year.
The market draws an average of more than 10,000 visitors each week and supports more than 100 vendors throughout the season. For a city with a population under 110,000, that's roughly one in ten residents cycling through a few blocks of Broadway every seven days. It's why finding parking north of Walnut Street after 4pm in August is a small athletic event.
A few things worth knowing if you've been going on autopilot:
- The 2026 run is May 20 through September 30 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., which gives you five more Wednesdays in August and four in September before it closes.
- Most vendors are the same each week, but a section features different vendors and showcases something different every Wednesday. If you go the same week every month, you are seeing a different market each time by design.
- The Farmers' Market on Broadway is a rain or shine event and will only cancel in the event of severe weather. Drizzle is not severe weather. The crowd thins by half, and that is the best version of the market.
What is actually happening on the CityDeck this month
The CityDeck is gently terraced into the Fox River, the social center of a quarter mile promenade running from the Walnut Street bridge north to the Main Street bridge along the river's east bank. Fridays on the Fox, the free concert series that has run there most of the summer, wraps up before August starts. That is the calendar cliff most people miss.

The DJ on the Deck series is new-ish and deserves attention. Downtown Green Bay's newest free 3-part music series hits the CityDeck Summer 2026, with lively DJs and sunset views along the Fox River July 11, August 8, and September 11. The August 8 date is the middle one, and it is the only Saturday night in August with programmed music on the water. If you were planning to catch it "next weekend" all month, that plan doesn't work.
The Broadway food shift you've been driving past
Broadway's dining mix has quietly turned over in the last twelve months, and the density is now high enough that you can walk from an appetizer to a nightcap without moving your car.
The newest anchor is on the south end. A new Texas-style craft barbecue restaurant is officially open on Broadway Street in Green Bay. High Kaliber Craft Kitchen, located at 126 S. Broadway, celebrated its grand opening in January 2026. The origin story is more interesting than most. High Kaliber began as a seasoning company before expanding into a food truck, and the latest step in its growth is a brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Green Bay. The menu leans hard on brisket theatrics, including the Texas Twinkie, a grilled cheese loaded with brisket, cheeses, bacon and jalapeño, served on Texas toast. This is not the place you go before a market run. It's the place you go after, when everyone is tired of walking and someone finally says the word "brisket."
A few blocks north, Copper State Brewing continues to run one of the most useful patios downtown. Their biergarten is open weather permitting, and the kitchen operates 11am to 9pm Monday through Saturday, with the bar open until 10pm. On a Wednesday market night that pattern matters: the market closes at 8, Copper State's kitchen goes another hour, and the biergarten stays open until 10. It is the built-in second act if you don't want the night to end at eight.
The thing residents miss about Broadway in August is not that it's busy. It's that it's briefly the most walkable neighborhood in northeastern Wisconsin, and that window closes with the market on the last Wednesday of September.
Two back-to-back weekends worth blocking off
The mid-to-late August calendar has two events that a lot of people mean to attend and end up missing because they land on Saturday or Sunday afternoons instead of the more famous Wednesday and Friday slots.
igNight Market, Friday August 15, 5–10pm. igNight is a traveling night market that transforms underutilized spaces in the Broadway District with a vibrant mix of art, music, and community. Shop from local artisans and makers, listen to live music, see interactive art demonstrations, and more. The traveling part is the trick. It's not always in the same block, so if you drove past the last one and didn't see it, that doesn't mean you missed it entirely. Check the location the day of.
Artfest Green Bay, Sunday August 23. Artfest Green Bay happens at Downtown Green Bay, Inc. on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 2pm CDT, with the streets of downtown coming alive with an art fair, musical performances, food, demonstrations, and interactive activities. If you're the kind of resident who has said "I keep meaning to go to that art thing downtown," this is that thing.
Layer on the concurrent stuff and August 22 into 23 is the peak weekend of the month for downtown. Same weekend, over at Paradise North Distillery, the BBQ & Bluegrass Bash 2026 runs Saturday August 22. The Broadway-to-distillery axis is a real evening if you plan it.
The calendar cliff nobody schedules for
Here is the thesis in one sentence: the version of downtown Green Bay you enjoy on a Wednesday night in August exists for about six more weeks, and then the whole rhythm shifts.
The mechanics are worth understanding. The Farmers' Market's last night is Wednesday, September 30. Packers home preseason and regular season traffic patterns start reshaping east-side movement in the same window. The Fridays on the Fox concerts run 6–9 p.m. select Fridays on CityDeck along the Fox River, and they are already over. The Leicht Memorial Park Sunday concert series at 128 Dousman Street runs 4–6:30 p.m. Sundays through August 9, a 10-concert series with touring and local acts. That one ends the second Sunday of the month.
Practically, that means the last Wednesday of August is a decision point. If you have been meaning to bring an out-of-town friend, take a first date somewhere unusual, or just eat dinner outside without a plan, you have four Wednesdays left after August 5. Then it gets colder faster than the calendar suggests. The mid-September market nights are pleasant, but they aren't the same room.
How locals actually use August downtown
A short field guide, since a list of events is not a plan:
- Park once. The lot behind the Meyer Theatre or a metered spot north of the market perimeter is the move. Circling Broadway between 4 and 6 is a losing game.
- Eat second. Vendors at the market are good, but the sit-down spots on Broadway hit their stride at 8:15 when the crowd thins. Copper State, High Kaliber, and the Titletown Brewing rooftop all clear out around then.
- Cross the bridge. The CityDeck is a five-minute walk from the market and rarely feels connected to it in most people's mental maps. It should be. The Pine Street and Cherry Street landings are the quieter ones.
- Watch the weather, not the forecast. The market runs in drizzle. The Broadway crowd underestimates this every year.
